Paul Salter

Freelance Translation, Proofreading & Desktop Publishing (DTP)

I graduated in 2007 from a four-year honours degree in Spanish and German at the University of Exeter, UK, which included a year abroad in a Spanish speaking country. I spent that year in Chile teaching English as a language assistant with the British Council, and travelled extensively around the southern countries of the continent during the holidays.

My time in South America allowed me to develop my then modest knowledge of the Spanish language into near-fluency, and I have since built on this through private study, broad reading and interaction with friends and contacts made during that year and since.

After graduating I worked for eight years at a successful translation and documentation company in the south of England, joining as a member of the desktop publishing team before being promoted to Team Leader and eventually to acting Production Manager. My time at the company provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the language and publishing industries, as well as a working knowledge of industry-leading Computer Assisted Translation tools and a range of desktop publishing software such as Adobe’s FrameMaker, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop products.

Since January 2015 I have been moving between Chile and the UK, working full time as a freelance translator, proofreader and DTP specialist.
